Hugo Arbues was a Spanish missionary and martyr who lived during the 16th century. He was born in 1562 in a small village in the Aragon region of Spain. Arbues became known for his devout faith and dedication to the Catholic Church from a young age. He joined the Dominican Order and pursued a life of religious service.

Arbues is particularly remembered for his role as an inquisitor during the Spanish Inquisition. He was appointed Inquisitor of Aragon in 1484, a position in which he worked to uphold the orthodoxy of the Catholic faith and combat heresy. His uncompromising stance on religious matters made him both respected and feared among the people of Aragon.

Despite his controversial role, Arbues was known for his fairness and commitment to justice. However, his actions also made him a target for those opposed to the Inquisition. Tragically, in 1485, while praying in a church in Zaragoza, Hugo Arbues was brutally assassinated by a group of anti-Inquisition conspirators.

Hugo Arbues was later beatified by the Catholic Church and is considered a martyr for his unwavering devotion to his faith and his willingness to stand up for what he believed in, even in the face of great danger.
