Richard Linklater (born July 30, 1960) is an American director, screenwriter, and producer known for his unique and innovative films that explore themes of time, youth, and relationships. Born in Houston, Texas, Linklater initially pursued baseball before dropping out of college and working on an oil rig. This experience sparked his love for film, and he moved to Austin to pursue filmmaking. His 1991 breakout film, Slacker, established him as a leading figure in the American independent cinema movement.
